Track Plan

March 2023 - 

Update, minor, but updated: 

The biggest, only, change is that the Watsonville staging has been installed on the northern end of the layout. 


April 2022 - 

As work has progressed, there have been some minor changes to the plan. Notably, an additional track has been added to the sugar beet off loading warehouse (dashed lines in front of the refinery). This will allow more carloads of beets to be spotted for off-loading. I don't believe there will be room for the lines in yellow in front of the refinery. I'm not clear on what they were used for, or whether or not they'll be missed. The engine servicing track is currently just the one spur, awaiting a switch or two. As that area develops, I'll update the plan. 

The layout as it appears as of April 2022. The tracks in yellow, as well as the two "Planned" sections, have not been installed. 


August 2020 - 

Because of certain things outside of my control, we've experienced a shake up. The layout plan dated March 2020 had been built, and then had to come down. Things are now reinstalled, and have undergone some modifications. The main change is the relocation of the Spreckels Sugar Beet Factory. By placing it here, there's more floor space and more room to model the large factory. I also can fit in an engine house.

As of March 2020, this track plan has been built, more or less. A few bits of siding need to be installed, but for the most part this is the final design.  There's also a measurement error in the floorplan somewhere. In reality, there are about three feet between Moss Landing and the Watsonville Jct. portion of the layout. Any removable wharf there would span the majority of that gap.

Whenever I saved the file, small adjustments would be made and the track would no longer line up, I'm not sure what is going on there. Assume the track is aligned, and the curves aren't as sharp as they appear.


August 2019 Update:

Pre-Construction Plan

Above is the original sketch of the proposed track plan that will fit in our 9' x 15' basement. I designed it around three primary switching locations, from north to south - the PVCRR's Watsonville yard and engine terminal, the Pacific Coast Steamship Co. wharf at Moss Landing, and the PVCRR's yard at Spreckels. Between Watsonville's interchange track with the Southern Pacific, the wharf at Moss Landing, and the sugar factory at Spreckels, the railroad has the potential to ship and receive a variety of freight and passengers. This was the track plan I had ready to go at the time of construction. There were many variations prior, and since.
